Era & HITT Selected to Provide Surveillance Over the North Sea
LVNL has selected Era and HITT to provide a Wide Area Multilateration solution in the Netherlands North Sea area.
Reston, VA – November 13, 2007 – Dutch Air Navigation Service Provider, Luchtverkeersleiding Nederland (LVNL) has selected Era, in partnership with the Holland Institute of Traffic Technology B.V. (HITT) company, to provide a Wide Area Multilateration solution in the Netherlands North Sea area. Era’s solution utilizes its MSS sensors, which will be strategically placed on platforms in the North Sea and on-shore, to provide optimal surveillance coverage over the Dutch portion of the North Sea.
This selection marks the second time that LVNL has chosen an Era solution. In 2006, LVNL selected Era to provide Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport with a vehicle tracking segment of its Advanced Surface Movement and Guidance Control System (A-SMGCS).
LVNL have a requirement to gather surveillance information on traffic equipped with Mode S and ADS-B transponders traveling to and from offshore platforms, which consists primarily of helicopter traffic, as well as general aviation and military flights. Era’s MSS system, which combines multilateration and ADS-B with multi-ranging techniques, is well suited to provide highly accurate surveillance coverage of aircraft flying at low altitudes in adverse weather conditions.
MSS by Era is a completely modular system, easily adaptable to any wide area requirement and is virtually impervious to all environmental challenges. This allows Era to strategically place the MSS sensors on land, as well as on offshore platforms to obtain optimal surveillance coverage.
When compared to conventional radar, Era’s multilateration systems provides higher position accuracy, faster update rates, better coverage and improved reliability, and does so at a much lower initial acquisition cost, with greatly reduced annual maintenance costs.
“We are proud that LVNL has chosen Era to deploy a wide area multilateration solution over the North Sea,” said Russell Hulstrom, Vice President & General Manager of Era’s Air Traffic Management business unit. “Our MSS platform is proven in the most demanding geographic and climatic environments and the North Sea represents another surveillance challenge where our multilateration capability is uniquely capable of meeting these demanding requirements.”
