East Midlands Selects Era for MLAT & Environmental Management
Era Corp. announced that the Manchester Airport Group has selected MSS by Era for wide area MLAT and ADS-B surveillance.
Reston, VA – January 17, 2008 – Era Corporation announced that the Manchester Airport Group has selected MSS by Era, Era’s wide area multilateration and ADS-B surveillance solution, for East Midlands Airport, UK. MSS by Era will initially provide enhanced surveillance information for the airport’s environmental management program, with the option to extend the use of the system to support air traffic control operations, both on the surface and in the approach area.
East Midlands Airport, recently voted “Best UK Airport” at the British Travel Awards and “World’s Leading Eco Friendly Airport” at the World Travel Awards, is both a significant regional passenger hub and the UK’s number one pure freight airport. East Midlands Airport has a strong track record of environmental responsibility, having become the first airport in the UK to be certified to the Environmental Standard ISO14001 in 2002. This latest project continues the airport’s commitment to strong environmental management.
“Era’s innovation and proven capabilities in both environmental management and air traffic control offered a combination of strengths to fully meet our requirements that was unmatched by any of their competitors,” said Jon Cox, Air Traffic Services Manager, East Midlands Airport.”
Era’s unique experience in both environment management and air traffic control were significant factors in the airport’s decision. Era provides airport environment management solutions to many of the USA’s largest airports, including those in Atlanta, New York, Dallas and Washington as well as Edinburgh and Glasgow airports in Scotland. Era also provides air traffic control solutions to customers around the world, including Beijing, Dublin, Copenhagen, Munich and Singapore.
Era has been a pioneer in both air traffic control and environmental applications, which are based on its multilateration and ADS-B technologies. Era deployed the world’s first multilateration-based surface and wide area surveillance solutions for air traffic control. Era also developed the world’s first web-based noise and operations monitoring system.
“This is an important project for Era, as it allows us to break new ground in the use of next generation surveillance technology in UK airspace,” said Dave Ellison, President & CEO, Era. “It also validates Era’s unique ability to leverage our surveillance network architecture for both airport operations and air traffic control in a single deployment.”
