Malta Air Traffic Services Select Searidge for Remote Apron Management
IntelliDAR to be deployed at Malta International Airport
AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS – March 9, 2010 - ATC Global Stand H716. Searidge Technologies, provider of intelligent video solutions to air navigation service providers (ANSPs) and airports, announced its Apron Management solution has been selected by Malta Air Traffic Services (MATS) for deployment at Malta International Airport.
MATS is relocating the international apron at the Malta International Airport. The Apron Management Unit (AMU) which provides clearance delivery/start-up and taxi instructions to the corresponding runway holding points adjacent to the apron will be moved and co-located in the existing control tower. The move will result in the AMU having no view of the apron area.
“With Searidge’s help we have conducted a detailed feasibility study and are confident Searidge’s solution and experience will be instrumental in facilitating the relocation of Malta’s international apron,” explains Robert Sant, chief operations officer, Malta Air Traffic Services.
The Searidge Apron Management solution will provide MATS with Air Traffic Control (ATC)-grade video and a high resolution stitched video display of the apron area. The system will continuously monitor and present real-time video feeds from digital camera sensors to a one-look display and provide advanced video diagnostics including video time stamp analysis, stale or invalid data warnings, and camera malfunction warnings. To replace the controllers’ previous out-the-window (OTW) view, video from cameras deployed parallel to each other will be stitched together to provide a single panoramic view of the area. The system delivers full situational awareness of the area, helping controllers to effectively manage ground traffic with a high degree of confidence.
“As airports look for ways to increase efficiency and reduce costs, the use of intelligent video to enable remote monitoring offers them a host of alternative surface management options. MATS’ remote apron management initiative is an excellent example of how our flexible technology can be applied to provide full situational awareness to controllers that no longer have an out-the-window view,” says Alex Sauriol, vice president, ATM products, Searidge Technologies.
