HITT reaches major milestones in A-SMGCS deliveries
With the conclusion of the factory acceptance tests of A‑SMGCS systems for Frankfurt and Gothenburg, and site acceptance of the A‑SMGCS extension in Bergen, HITT has reached major milestones in systems' delivery.
Apeldoorn, The Netherlands, 13 May 2011 - The factory acceptance of the Frankfurt system concerns a major upgrade of the A‑SMGCS to the latest release of HITT's A3000 A‑SMGCS, supplied to long-standing customer Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH (DFS). This includes the integration of a recently installed third Terma radar that significantly enhances coverage of a large portion of the West runway. Originally in operation since 2000, the system supports air traffic controllers in the safe handling of ground traffic in the complex traffic environment at Frankfurt Airport. With 53 million passengers in 2010, Frankfurt ranks 9th among the busiest airports in the world.
Equally successful was the factory acceptance for the upgrade of the Surface Movement Radar (SMR) system to HITT's A3000 A-SMGCS for Gothenburg's Landvetter Airport. The Swedish Civil Aviation Authority LFV, another long-standing customer, accepted the system in April. In operation since 1998, the SMR system has exceeded the Customer's expectation in terms of performance and high availability.
The site acceptance by Avinor AS, Norway’s Air Navigation Service Provider, of the enhancement of the A‑SMGCS for Bergen - Flesland airport, marks a third important milestone. A major element of the enhancement is the integration of a multilateration and ADS-B. These technologies provide automatic positive identification of aircraft and vehicles, greatly enhancing the safety of airport traffic. The support contract for this project was extended.
Both Frankfurt and Landvetter will soon operate with HITT A3000 products. This places the safety cases for these systems on a solid foundation of experiences shared among many other airports using HITT's A3000 A‑SMGCS, including Bergen, Dublin, Cairo, Istanbul, Mumbai and both airports of Shanghai. The extensive installed base also significantly reduces the effort to develop the safety cases in close co-operation with our customers.
