Searidge Selected for Remote Runway Surveillance System Trial at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol

Aerospace experts lead project to evaluate video system

Amsterdam, Netherlands – March 6th, 2012 – ATC Global Stand R420 – Searidge Technologies, provider of intelligent video solutions to Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) and airports, announced that they have been selected by National Aerospace Laboratory (NLR) as its video partner for the evaluation of a customized Remote Runway Surveillance system at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS).

The Remote Runway Surveillance system is being evaluated to monitor the Airport’s most distant runway, located six kilometers from the central tower. Currently air traffic controllers cannot see this runway from the tower therefore require the second tower, with a closer location, to be staffed at all times, including during low traffic hours at night.  Searidge will aim to provide air traffic controllers, currently using an out-the-window view, with a remote video system that will enable them to provide full surveillance and advisory services from the central tower at night.

“Searidge’s extensive experience and proven technology has made them a logical choice as our video partner for this project,” says the National Aerospace Laboratory. Searidge offers a cost-effective surveillance alternative for a distant runway that centralizes airport’ operations in low traffic hours and subsequently has the potential to reduce operation costs.

The Searidge ATC-Grade Video system uses advanced video processing technology to intuitively consolidate multiple camera scenes into a simulated single-stitched view of the runway. Remotely controlled Pan Tilt Zoom (PTZ) cameras increase the surveillance capability of the remote runway and taxiways. The remote monitoring technology makes for a more efficient use of human and capital resources by providing safety, reducing staffing requirements and significantly lowering operating costs.

“We are pleased to partner with an expert in the aerospace community like NLR,” say Alex Sauriol, Vice President ATM/Airport Technology, Searidge Technologies. “As we strive to produce advanced solutions in air traffic management we are aware of common obstacles airports are facing. The remote runway monitoring solution accommodates fluctuations in traffic and human resource shortages while offering scalable and flexible deployment options.”
