Terma Introduces Enhanced Surface Movement Radar (eSMR) for Airports
The flexibility of software-defined radar systems and advantages in digital signal processing allow for processing more information and this improves the situational awareness capability as well as the accuracy, high precision and improved detection. eSMR also gives a possible detection and classification of various moving targets such as birds within and above the aerodrome maneuvering area.

Toronto Pearson Airport operating new generation SCANTER Radar from Terma
Canadian Air Navigation Service Provider NAV CANADA has taken the first SCANTER 5502 Solid State Surface Movement Radar (SMR) into operation in the country’s biggest airport in Toronto. Here the new SMR will work together with the two existing SCANTER SMR’s, already operational in the airport. The Terma supply also includes the new, heated anti-icing antenna that can prevent ice from building up on the antenna while spinning.

First Wind Farm Obstruction Light Control project from Terma approved and operational
The high intensity obstruction lights from wind turbines can sometimes annoy residents who live nearby. This problem can be overcome by turning the obstruction lights on only when necessary, such as when there is an aircraft in the vicinity of the wind farm. Since end of December 2017 the obstruction lights have been de-activated during nighttime thanks to Terma’s SCANTER 5202 wind farm OLC system.

Madrid Barajas Airport to operate Solid State generation Radar from Terma
Terma has been awarded the upgrade of the existing Surface Movement Radar (SMR) at Madrid Barajas Airport North Tower by AENA – the state-owned company that manages general interest airports and heliports in Spain. In 2016 Terma was awarded the upgrade project for the South Tower. Madrid Barajas thus joins the long list of major international airports to operate Terma’s solid state SCANTER 5502 Surface Movement Radar.

Oslo Gardermoen Airport to operate Solid State only radars from Terma
Terma has been contracted by Avinor AS to upgrade two of the existing Terma Surface Movement Radars (SMR) at Oslo Gardermoen Airport. With the already installed SCANTER radar system, Oslo Gardermoen Airport will operate three of the new generation Solid State SCANTER 5502 Surface Movement Radar from Terma.
